The National Secretariat of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday applauded the achievements Governor Ademola Adeleke as the party conducted ward congresses across 214 wards in 25 local governments of Osun State.
The Congress was to fill vacancies at the wards following the expiration of the tenure of ward executives in line with the Party’s constitution.
The Leader of the National Secretariat delegation, Dr. Samuel Omotosho described the congress as peaceful and widely embraced by members, while adding that the turnout and calm atmosphere showed the people’s confidence in Governor Adeleke’s leadership.
“The congress has been awesome, going from one local government to the other. We can all see the enthusiasm of the people, their commitment to the party, and the way they have reacted. The people are comfortable and pleased with the governor,” Omotosho said.
He declared that Osun has fully embraced the PDP, stressing that Adeleke had brought light to the state.
“Going across all these local governments today, it shows that Osun State is PDP. Imole is everywhere, and PDP has shown the Southwest that things can be done better.
“Imole himself (Ademola Adeleke) is a man of impeccable character, someone who made sacrifices to bring about changes that many thought impossible a few years ago. We are all aware when the people of Osun State were in the land of the Egyptians (APC), but with Imole, the Egyptians they would see no more. Imole is here, and darkness has gone forever,” he declared.
Omotosho also highlighted the party’s compliance with gender inclusion, noting that women were fully represented.
“Our party is so democratic that even the three ad-hoc delegates can be women, because women are very important in society. Without the woman, there can’t be men. We saw the 35 percent affirmation for women that is included in our constitution, and our party remains one of the few in Africa that has shown enough commitment to gender equality,” he explained.
Earlier at the Party Secretariat in Osogbo, the State Chairman Hon. Sunday Bisi assured that measures had been put in place for a hitch-free exercise in all wards. He said the PDP remains committed to lawful and transparent processes.
“We have put everything necessary in place. Yesterday, I was with the Commissioner of Police and his entire structure, and they have instructed all DPOs in the affected local governments to provide enough security. The DSS and Amotekun are also on alert. We are democratic in PDP, and what we are doing today shows how committed we are to due process,” Bisi stated.
He added that Governor Adeleke’s performance within three years has surpassed what the APC failed to achieve in twelve years.
“What the APC could not do in 12 years, Imole has done in less than three years. And all this was made possible because we have a governor focused only on good governance and a party strong enough to give him the support he needs,” Bisi said.
