Former presidential candidate Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring renewed allegations against him through his estranged wife as part of a calculated attempt to destroy his political reputation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released on Thursday, the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) described the development as a continuation of a smear campaign designed to weaken his growing political influence.

Olawepo-Hashim alleged that the same tactics were employed against him during his 2019 presidential campaign, claiming that certain figures close to the Buhari administration then attempted to falsely implicate him in criminal activities.

According to him, “My ex-wife was recruited by some individuals linked to the Buhari administration, operating through the UK High Commission and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA).

“Apart from other malicious actions they undertook, they even tried to frame me for financing terrorism. I was interrogated in the UK but later cleared when no evidence was found,” he stated.

Olawepo-Hashim maintained that the recent allegations were politically motivated and urged the public to disregard them, emphasizing his commitment to pursuing his political ambitions despite continued efforts to discredit him.
