Former Vice President and chieftain of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar has declared that he is prepared and ready to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race if a younger, vibrant and widely accepted candidate emerges.

Atiku while speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday, he emphasized that his ambition is not driven by personal interest but by the need to present Nigerians with a credible alternative capable of rescuing the country.

He encouraged young Nigerians to be more active in politics, assuring that he would fully support any younger aspirant who secures the party’s backing to contest for the presidency.

Dismissing claims that he is desperate for power, Atiku said his priority remains liberating the nation from what he described as the grip of those who have held it hostage.

“My being in the 2027 race does not stop anyone else from contesting. If a vibrant and widely accepted younger candidate emerges, I am willing to step aside,” he stated.
