Mudashiru-Obasa-Speaker-Lagos-State-House-of-Assembly-e1686224741863

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state to redouble their efforts in mobilizing votes for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obasa made the appeal during the maiden edition of the Lagos State APC Stakeholders’ Forum held on Tuesday, October 21, at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.

The event brought together key figures of the party, including ministers, senators, members of the National and State Assemblies, members of the Lagos State Executive Council, local government chairmen, royal fathers, and representatives of various trade and professional associations.

In his address, Obasa reassured party members of continued support from the leadership, emphasizing the importance of unity, loyalty, and hard work ahead of the coming elections.

“We will continue to support you so that you remain motivated to keep working for the success of the party at all levels,” he said, while also endorsing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s motion calling for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

The Speaker acknowledged growing concerns among party faithful over the reward system, urging the APC to prioritize fairness and recognition for members who actively contribute to the party’s growth before and during elections.

In a related remark, former Lagos State Governor and ex-Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), who delivered a paper titled “Voter Apathy and the Sanctity of Elections in Nigeria’s Budding Democracy,” noted that a poor reward system often weakens members’ enthusiasm and participation in party activities.

“Political participation thrives on enthusiasm. To curb voter apathy, we must review and strengthen the reward structure within our party,” Fashola said.

He commended the Lagos APC for organizing the stakeholders’ forum and urged that such engagements be sustained and replicated in other parts of the country.

Earlier in his remarks, the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, appreciated Lagosians for their unwavering support during the last local government elections. He also assured that members who lost out in the polls would be refunded the money spent on nomination formw, a pledge, he noted, made by President Tinubu himself.
