Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has confirmed the state’s readiness to host the 63rd Nigeria National Committee Meeting of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Governor Otti gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving a delegation led by Mrs. Mary Chima, WAEC’s Abia Branch Controller, at the Government House.
“We thank WAEC for selecting Abia. We have received your letter and have already begun preparations. It is a privilege to host this important event, and we will ensure everything is in place to make it successful and memorable,” Otti stated.
He attributed WAEC’s decision to his administration’s strong commitment to education and pledged to continue prioritizing educational development in the state.
He also directed the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, to reopen the recruitment portal for an additional 4,000 teachers.
Speaking earlier, Mrs. Mary Chima officially informed the governor that Abia has been chosen to host the 2025 WAEC Nigeria National Council Meeting, scheduled for November 17–21 in Umuahia.
She praised Governor Otti’s dedication to educational reform, saying.
“The choice of Abia State is a recognition of your administration’s commitment to excellence, discipline, and reform in education. Under your leadership, Abia has consistently ranked among the top-performing states in WAEC exams, with strong adherence to examination ethics.”
Chima emphasized the significance of the meeting, describing it as WAEC’s highest policy-making body in Nigeria.
It brings together state education commissioners, heads of WAEC offices, and top officials to shape policies and improve educational standards nationwide.
