The Afe Nkuku Annang, the highest council of traditional rulers in Akwa Ibom State’s Annang land, has called on Mrs. Patience Akpabio, sister-in-law to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and her husband, Ibanga Akpabio, to appear before the council within seven days.
This follows her alleged defamatory and provocative social media posts accusing the Senate President of involvement in multiple killings during his time as governor.
In a statement issued after a meeting at the Ati Annang Secretariat in Ikot Ekpene, the monarchs expressed concern over Mrs. Akpabio’s “malicious and unguarded” Facebook posts. One such post read.
“For all the people you people have killed when you were governor of Akwa Ibom, and those you people have killed now that you are in the Senate, it will not be well with you.”
The communique, signed by prominent traditional rulers including HRM Obong Cosmas Okon Akpan, demands that Mrs. Patience and her husband come forward for clarification and possible traditional reconciliation within seven days. Failure to comply may result in severe penalties.
The royal council criticized Mrs. Akpabio’s language as inappropriate, emphasizing that as a member of the respected Akpabio family of Essien Udim, she should uphold family and community values. They advised that any grievances should be handled through family or legal channels rather than social media attacks.
The Afe Nkuku Annang condemned the posts for damaging the reputations of both Senate President Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno, clearing them of all accusations.
Efforts to reach Mrs. Patience Akpabio and her husband for comment were unsuccessful.
