Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has etched his name into English Premier League history by becoming the Nigerian player with the most appearances in the competition.

The 29-year-old reached the milestone during Fulham’s 1–0 defeat to his former club, Arsenal, on Saturday evening. Despite the loss, Iwobi’s appearance marked a significant personal achievement in his professional career.

According to the Premier League’s official records, Iwobi has now made 299 appearances, surpassing the previous record held by former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi, who featured 298 times in the league.

Iwobi, who began his football journey at Arsenal’s Hale End Academy, has spent his entire senior career in the Premier League, representing Arsenal (100 matches), Everton (123 matches), and Fulham (76 matches).

With this feat, he moves ahead of some of Nigeria’s most celebrated footballers, including:

Shola Ameobi – 298 appearances

Nwankwo Kanu – 273 appearances

Yakubu Aiyegbeni – 252 appearances

John Obi Mikel – 249 appearances

Iwobi is now set to reach another landmark as he prepares to make his 300th Premier League appearance next weekend against Newcastle United.

Beyond club football, Iwobi has remained a key figure for the Super Eagles, recently helping Nigeria secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs during the international break.
