The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, calling his leadership “visionary” in response to favorable growth projections by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC credited Tinubu’s market-driven reforms for Nigeria’s improving economic outlook, highlighting GDP growth of 4.23% in Q2 2025—above the IMF’s earlier forecast of 3.4%.
Consequently, the IMF revised Nigeria’s 2025 growth projection to 3.9% and 4.2% for 2026. The World Bank echoed this optimism, projecting a 4.2% growth in 2025 and 4.4% by 2027.
“This strong performance stands out amid a slowing global economy,” the APC noted, comparing Nigeria’s trajectory to the global average, which is expected to dip to 3.1% by 2026.
Despite these positive indicators, the APC acknowledged persistent challenges, including food inflation and poverty. The World Bank projects that poverty could affect 61% of Nigerians in 2025 and 62% in 2026, though a slight decline is expected in 2027 due to increased agricultural productivity and social welfare programs.
The APC emphasized the impact of Tinubu’s reforms in reducing fiscal deficits, boosting local production, and diversifying the economy.
The party cited a N7.46 trillion trade surplus in Q2 2025, a 40.5% rise in non-oil revenue to N20.59 trillion, and the Nigerian Customs exceeding its revenue target by N390 billion.
Additionally, structural changes such as the removal of Ways and Means financing, a unified exchange rate, and improved NNPC transparency have contributed to economic stability, with inflation falling to 20.1%.
The party also noted rising investor confidence, pointing to a $300 billion commitment from Qatari investors, and predicted that Nigeria might exceed World Bank forecasts by 2027.
In a swipe at opposition parties, the APC dismissed critics as lacking viable alternatives and reaffirmed its commitment to national renewal.
“We urge Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support for APC and President Tinubu in this journey of renewed hope and prosperity,” the statement concluded.
