The Nigerian Army’s 2 Brigade in Akwa Ibom State has initiated an investigation into the tragic death of an officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, who died from severe burn injuries sustained in a fire incident in Uyo, the state capital.

 

According to a statement released on Friday by Captain Lawal Muhammad, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the officer suffered serious burns in an inferno that occurred on September 22, 2025.

 

He was immediately rushed to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, where he received treatment until his passing on October 6, 2025.

 

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under thorough investigation,” the statement noted.

 

The Army extended its condolences to Lt. Haruna’s family, friends, and colleagues, while also thanking the public for their support during the difficult period.

 

Captain Muhammad reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, and the safety of its personnel.
