Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, former representative of Bayelsa East in the National Assembly, has officially announced his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement shared via his verified X.com (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, Murray-Bruce emphasized that his decision was driven not by politics, but by a desire to support progress. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a visionary leader with a deep understanding of Nigeria’s economic challenges and potential.

“I have known President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu since 1998. I know the man’s mind, his courage, and his conviction. He is not driven by applause, he is driven by results,” Murray-Bruce stated.

“For the first time in our nation’s history, we have a President who truly understands finance — who sees the economy not as a political slogan, but as a living organism that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to breathe.”

Announcing his defection, the SilverGroup founder said “That is why today, I am joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) — not for politics, but for progress. Because I believe that Bola Tinubu’s leadership, guided by courage and intellect, will deliver the Nigeria we have all dreamed of.”

He expressed strong optimism that with a full eight-year tenure, Tinubu’s administration would bring about “phenomenal growth” and reposition Nigeria on the global stage.

“I choose to stand with that vision. I choose to stand with reform. I choose to stand with the future.”

Murray-Bruce praised the Tinubu administration’s direction in economic and security reforms, describing them as a foundation for long-term national prosperity.

He particularly highlighted the deregulation of the petroleum sector and the restructuring of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as policies that are restoring investor confidence and stabilizing the naira.

“The painful reforms we face today are the very foundation of tomorrow’s prosperity. We are moving into a free-market economy that rewards hard work and innovation instead of dependency and distortion.”

On infrastructure, he called Tinubu’s projects “unprecedented,” citing developments in road networks, ports, airports, and housing as tangible indicators of renewed national commitment.

“I know it is still a difficult season for many families. But as history teaches, reform is never painless. Yet, it is in these moments of sacrifice that nations are reborn.”

In May 2025, PUNCH Online reported that Murray-Bruce had praised the President’s initiative to construct the 700km Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, calling it “proof of the transformative power of visionary leadership.”
