The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of the screening of aspirants for its 2025 Elective National Convention, which was initially scheduled to hold on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, who attributed the decision to “unforeseen circumstances.”
Fintiri explained that a new date for the screening would be announced soon, adding that the committee deeply regretted any inconvenience caused to aspirants and members.
He stated, “A new date will be communicated once fixed. The NCOC regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement. All aspirants and members of our Party should note the foregoing and be guided accordingly.”
The governor reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to conducting a credible and hitch-free national convention.
The postponement comes just hours after former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the party.
His announcement followed the endorsement of former Minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) as the northern consensus candidate, a decision that has sparked resistance among some party factions aligned with Lamido and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who argued that the endorsement process lacked broad consultation.
Earlier, the PDP had confirmed that its 2025 Elective National Convention would take place between November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The party also named a 13-member National Convention Screening Committee, chaired by Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), a former Ondo State governorship candidate, to vet aspirants seeking national positions ahead of the convention.
The recent development underscores the growing tension and political realignments within the PDP as the party prepares for its national leadership contest.
