Award-winning Afrobeats artist, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has unveiled a new female hostel named in honour of his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, at Clifford University, Abia State.

The event took place on Sunday during the university’s 6th Convocation Ceremony, where Davido also delivered an inspiring commencement speech to the graduating students.

Sharing the moment on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Davido reflected on the emotional significance of the building’s dedication. He described the gesture as a tribute to his mother’s legacy as a teacher and philanthropist.

“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, was a teacher and a giver who believed that education and compassion could change lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose — turning love into legacy,” he wrote.

Addressing the graduates, the singer urged them to lead lives of purpose and impact, reminding them that greatness isn’t measured by fame or wealth, but by the lives they touch.

“When I looked into their faces, I saw the same fire that built me — that hunger to be seen, to make something out of nothing, to turn pain into power. Talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning,” he said.

The event also saw the presence of nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, who pledged to sponsor the education of 50 students by covering their tuition fees.

The Vice-Chancellor of Clifford University, Professor Chimezie Omeonu, praised Davido’s commitment to education and youth empowerment, noting that his contributions would leave a lasting impact on the institution and its students.

The ceremony concluded with the official ribbon-cutting of the newly commissioned Veronica Imade Adeleke Female Hostel, witnessed by university staff, students, and invited guests.
