Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing the 62.65-kilometre Port Harcourt Ring Road Project, despite previous delays and financial constraints.

Speaking during an on-site inspection tour of the project, Governor Fubara assured residents that the state government would see the project through to completion. He noted that Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the construction company handling the project, has remobilised to the site and resumed work.

Describing the project as one of the most significant infrastructure investments in the state’s history, Fubara emphasised its potential to ease traffic congestion, enhance connectivity, and boost economic growth across Port Harcourt and its environs.

“Julius Berger has always been a key partner in the infrastructural development of Rivers State,” Fubara said. “Following our meetings and discussions, they have now returned to site. Though some of our talks are ongoing, they gave me their word that work would resume — and I am here today to confirm that commitment.

Let me assure the good people of Rivers State: by the special grace of God, this project will be completed.”

The governor reaffirmed that his administration remains focused on infrastructure delivery and pledged to fulfil all commitments made to the people.

Speaking further on progress, the project’s Site Engineer, Mike Andrae, confirmed that remobilisation was already in progress. He provided updates on ongoing works, including bridge construction and flyovers.

“Currently, we are completing bridge works on Flyovers 1 and 3, after which asphalting will commence,” Andrae explained. “For Flyover 5, only the asphalting remains. Although the initial completion date was mid-2026, we now expect the project to be completed by December 2026 due to earlier delays.”

The Port Harcourt Ring Road spanning 50.15 kilometres will connect six local government areas: Port Harcourt, Obio-Akpor, Ikwerre, Etche, Eleme, and Ogu-Bolo. The dual carriageway includes six flyovers and a river-crossing bridge designed to improve transport efficiency and regional mobility.

Awarded in July 2023 with a 36-month completion timeline, the project aims to create a circular road network linking major neighbourhoods, suburbs, and industrial zones. It is expected to reduce urban congestion, stimulate commerce, and enhance livability across the state.
