Antoine Griezmann reached a historic milestone on Tuesday night, scoring his 200th goal for Atlético Madrid in their emphatic 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League.

The French forward struck in first-half stoppage time, finishing from close range after a clever assist by Julián Álvarez. He celebrated by holding up a special jersey marked “200” with his nickname “Grizi” on the back, drawing huge applause from the Metropolitano crowd.

“I’m happy and very proud to have reached this mark. It wasn’t easy,” Griezmann said after the match.

The 34-year-old, Atlético’s all-time leading scorer, also saw a second goal ruled out for handball in the 67th minute before receiving a standing ovation when he was substituted late on.

Griezmann became the club’s record scorer in January 2024 when he surpassed Luis Aragonés’ 173-goal tally with a strike against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup. His landmark goal on Tuesday came just days after scoring in Atlético’s 5-2 derby win over Real Madrid in La Liga.

“The team has good momentum. We have to stay on this path,” he added.

Now in his 10th season across two stints with Atlético, Griezmann first played for the club from 2014 to 2019 before a move to Barcelona. After two underwhelming years there, he returned to Atlético in 2021 on loan before signing permanently. He recently extended his contract with the club until 2027.
