The executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has denied reports circulating on social media that he has left the Labour Party (LP) to joint All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting to the rumours, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, described the claim as a fabrication by political propagandists who, according to him, are unsettled by Governor Otti’s steady performance and growing popularity across political divides.
Kanu stressed that Governor Otti remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party, the platform through which Abians overwhelmingly elected him into office.
“Governor Alex Otti remains a dedicated member of the Labour Party,” the Commissioner said. “His focus is unwavering to rebuild Abia, restore accountability, and deliver the dividends of democracy to every citizen of the state.”
The Commissioner noted that just last week, during the October edition of “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” the governor made it clear that his interest is not in political alignments or defections but in service to humanity and the transformation of Abia State.
“He reaffirmed that leadership, to him, is about impact, not political convenience,” Kanu added.
He further highlighted the administration’s achievements in transparency, fiscal discipline, infrastructure renewal, economic growth, youth empowerment, and the restoration of public confidence in governance and values, he said, that align with the Labour Party’s core ideals.
Kanu urged Abians to dismiss the rumour, describing it as cheap propaganda designed to distract the public from the progress being made under Otti’s leadership.
“We wish to assure Abians that Governor Alex Otti remains resolute in his mission to build a new Abia founded on truth, justice, and equity, all under the banner of the Labour Party,” he concluded.
