Popular Nigerian auto influencer and car dealer, Olayinka Akinwande, widely known as Ola of Lagos, has addressed the recent demolition of a car lot in Lekki, clarifying that he does not own the property.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel on Friday, Ola responded to widespread speculation that the Lagos State Government had targeted him during the demolition.
“I never said or claimed to own the property of the Skywise Group. I only leased a section for my business. I repeat, I do not own the land and never claimed to have built on it,” he stated.
Ola explained that the demolition was carried out due to safety violations, not personal or political motives.
“The Lagos State Government demolished this place because certain safety precautions were not followed not because I was targeted. Please stop misrepresenting it.”
He added that the space was always intended to be temporary, and he supports government efforts to ensure safety and urban planning.
“It wasn’t even safe. I respect and support any initiative that prioritises public safety.”
Ola expressed appreciation for the Skywise Group, the property owners, highlighting their professionalism and transparency during the lease.
“They were never greedy. I had a good relationship with Skywise Group and respect their management. Please stop mixing things up.”
Despite the setback, the car enthusiast reassured fans and partners that his brand would return stronger.
“Don’t worry, it’s for the better. Ola of Lagos Auto Showroom will be back, bigger and better.”
He closed with gratitude and optimism “You all love and respect me. This isn’t about Ola of Lagos—it’s about safety for everyone. We’re coming back bigger and better.”
The demolition, carried out earlier this week, sparked mixed reactions online, with some alleging political targeting. Ola’s statement aims to clarify the situation and reinforce that it was a matter of regulatory enforcement, not personal attack.
