President Bola Tinubu has withdrawn the presidential pardon previously granted to Maryam Sanda, who was convicted in 2020 for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello.

Amid widespread public criticism of the earlier pardon, the President has reinstated her conviction, commuting the initial death sentence to 12 years in prison.

The decision was announced in an official gazette released on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to the gazette, Sanda who has already served six years and eight months at the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre is to complete the remaining term under compassionate consideration.
