A yet-to-be-identified young woman has been found dead with multiple stab wounds behind the fence of a university in the Mubi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Reports indicated that residents of the community discovered the body on Tuesday and immediately alerted the police.

A counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the incident on X (formerly Twitter), said the distress call prompted the police to visit the scene.

Makama wrote, “A distress call was received by the Divisional Police Officer of Mubi North at about 12:00 p.m. on October 21, reporting that an unidentified female corpse was found behind the Adamawa State University fence with multiple stab wounds.

“On receipt of the report, the DPO led a team of detectives to the scene, took photographs, and evacuated the corpse to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, for autopsy,” the source was quoted as saying.

He added that police investigations led to the arrest of two suspects connected to the incident.

“According to the source, preliminary investigation led to the arrest of one Private Tanko Salihu and one Yahaya Idi Gadzama.”

When contacted for comment, the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, Yahaya Suleiman, said he had yet to be briefed about the incident but promised to provide further details later.

However, several calls placed to his phone on Thursday went unanswered at the time of filing this report.

Similar violent incidents have been reported in recent times involving female victims. In August, a 60-year-old Nigerian woman, Nkiru Chima, was found dead with multiple stab wounds in her Romford apartment in the United Kingdom.

In March, tragedy also struck in the Agbure community of Ogun State, when a man identified simply as Oju allegedly stabbed his 36-year-old wife, Josephine Isaac, to death during a domestic dispute.

These recurring cases highlight growing concerns about domestic and gender-based violence both within and outside Nigeria.
