A Director with the Lagos State Government, Serifat Talabi, has died just four days before her scheduled retirement from civil service and her 60th birthday celebration.

Reports indicate on Tuesday that Talabi was killed by a hit-and-run driver on Saturday while attempting to cross the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near the Redemption Camp in Ogun State.

A source within the Lagos State Civil Service, who requested anonymity, said Talabi served as the Director of Procurement at the Lagos State Resident Registration Agency (LASSRA).

“She was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver while trying to cross the expressway around the Redemption Camp. Efforts were made to take her to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead,”

the source disclosed.

Another insider at the agency revealed that Talabi was originally scheduled to retire on Monday, October 13, but her send-off event was postponed to Wednesday, October 22, to accommodate the agency’s General Manager.

The source added that she had already printed invitation cards for her retirement and birthday celebration.

“She was supposed to retire on October 13, but because the General Manager was not around, she then shifted the date to October 22 so he could attend. Invitations had already been printed and sent to colleagues, friends, and family before the unfortunate incident,”

the source said.

An invitation card sighted by PUNCH Metro indicated that the celebration was scheduled to hold at the NERDC Conference Centre, NERDC Road, Ikeja, adjacent to the Fela Shrine.

Meanwhile, The Eagle Online reported that Talabi’s family has released her burial arrangements.

According to details shared on a WhatsApp group and obtained by the platform, the wake will be held on October 23, 2025, while the burial service will take place on October 24, 2025, both at 10 Ore-Ofe Street, Ara Hall Bus Stop, Ibafo, Ogun State.

Efforts to reach the LASSRA spokesperson, Basirat Lawal, were unsuccessful as calls to her line were not answered, and a text message sent to her remained unreplied as of press time.

Similarly, attempts to contact the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, were also unsuccessful.
