Nurses and midwives at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have suspended their indefinite strike following the intervention of Governor Seyi Makinde.
The decision was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Unit Chairman, Ojewumi Olutayo, and Unit Secretary, Adedokun Foluwake, in Ibadan, the state capital, on Friday.
The health workers had embarked on industrial action in September 2025 over welfare-related demands. However, they resolved to return to work after Governor Makinde visited the hospital on Wednesday to hold talks with management, professional bodies, and staff.
During the visit, Makinde approved an additional N35 million monthly subvention for the hospital. He also directed the phased payment of accumulated promotion and minimum wage arrears, while ordering the integration of non-staff personnel into the hospital system to ensure inclusivity.
The governor further pledged the immediate constitution of a Governing Council for the institution and reaffirmed his commitment to completing the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annexe in Oyo before the end of his tenure.
In their statement, the nurses and midwives described the governor as a “compassionate and visionary leader” who rekindled hope through decisive actions.
They said, “The Congress of nurses and midwives held on Friday, October 3, 2025, formally resolved to suspend the strike, with full services resuming immediately… These measures not only address our immediate welfare demands but also lay the foundation for long-term stability and growth within the institution.”
They added that the suspension of the strike was not only in recognition of the governor’s magnanimity but also a reaffirmation of their commitment to delivering quality healthcare to the people of Oyo State.
