Actor and filmmaker Daniel Etim-Effiong is thrilled by the overwhelming response to his latest film, The Herd, describing the experience as both exhilarating and humbling.
In a chat with Saturday Beats, Etim-Effiong said he’s been blown away by the audience’s reactions since the film’s release.
“I’m ecstatic. The reception has been amazing, I haven’t seen a single bad review so far. My favourite thing right now is sitting in the cinema and watching people’s reactions. I can’t even stop watching the movie myself. It’s such an exciting time for me,” he said.
Despite the praise, the actor acknowledged the pressure of ensuring the film performs well commercially.
“There’s always that pressure to make sure the movie does well during its opening weekend. We’re doing all we can to promote it, but our marketing budget is limited,” he explained.
Reflecting on what The Herd means to him, Etim-Effiong added “I’ve always known I could tell good stories but this movie proves it.”
He also revealed that the film’s inspiration came from his childhood road trips.
“When I was a kid, I used to take long drives with my dad. I’d love to do the same with my children, but the fear of highway attacks makes that impossible. It’s sad that Nigeria has such beautiful scenery we can’t explore safely because of insecurity,” he said.
