The frosty relationship between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) and Senate President Godswill Akpabio appears to be warming up, as Akpoti-Uduaghan has invited Akpabio to attend a project commissioning ceremony in her senatorial district.
The event, which will also mark her second anniversary as a Senator, is scheduled to take place on Sunday in Ihima, Kogi State. The invitation personally signed by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was read aloud by the Senate President during Thursday’s plenary session.
“In marking my second-year anniversary as serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite my fellow Distinguished Senators to join me for the commissioning of projects in Kogi State,” the letter read.
According to the letter, the meeting point will be her residence at Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street, Ihima, Okene. Senators flying into the state were advised to use the Obajana Airstrip before traveling to Ihima by road.
After reading the letter, Senate President Akpabio warmly responded, “Congratulations in advance,” signaling a friendly tone.
This gesture marks a significant step toward reconciliation between both lawmakers. Their relationship had soured earlier in the year after a heated dispute over Senate seat reallocation led to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension in March.
Since her reinstatement on September 24, the Kogi lawmaker has gradually re-engaged with the Senate leadership, participating in plenary discussions and contributing to debates such as the Criminal Code Act (Amendment) Bill 2025.
Her latest invitation, however, represents her most open effort yet to mend ties with the Senate President and foster unity within the chamber.
