Gospel singer and pastor Nathaniel Bassey has shared a deeply personal testimony, revealing that his wife, Sarah Bassey, experienced five miscarriages, including an ectopic pregnancy, during the early years of his popular worship initiative, the Hallelujah Challenge.
Speaking during a session of the 2025 edition of the challenge which runs from October 7 to 31 Bassey reflected on the hidden pain he and his family endured while continuing to lead worship online.
“There were times during the Hallelujah Challenge when we had a miscarriage and nobody knew. I would still come online to praise and dance,” he said. “A few years ago, she had an ectopic pregnancy. I’d lead worship, then rush back to the hospital. The nurses would say, ‘It was powerful tonight.’ Not one or two, but five losses.”
Despite the heartbreaking experiences, Bassey remained steadfast in his ministry, continuing to lead worship sessions while his wife was in the hospital.
Now in its eighth year, the Hallelujah Challenge is a global online worship event featuring praise, prayer, and fasting, held nightly from 11:59 p.m. Thousands of believers tune in worldwide.
Encouraging his audience, Bassey emphasized the importance of trusting God through trials. “When people ask, ‘Where is God?’ I say, I understand. God is faithful. One word He gave us was, ‘Don’t give up on God.’”
Nathaniel and Sarah Bassey have been married since 2013.
