The immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa (retd), has urged Nigerian soldiers to remain steadfast and patriotic, describing Nigeria as a country worth every sacrifice.
Musa made the appeal on Friday during his Pulling-Out Parade in Abuja, marking the end of his distinguished 39-year military career. In an emotional address, he reflected on his journey in the armed forces, calling it “the greatest honour of my life.”
“This parade today is not just a ceremony; it marks the culmination of a career dedicated to the protection and unity of our beloved country,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve as CDS since 2023, Musa also commended his colleagues across the military and other security agencies for their dedication to national defence.
He paid special tribute to his family, especially his wife and children acknowledging their sacrifices during his years of service.
“You are the unsung heroes of my service and I owe you a debt of love that can never be fully repaid,” he added emotionally.
The retired general urged officers and men of the armed forces to remain loyal, professional and united in safeguarding the nation, noting that lasting peace and security depend on collaboration among all security institutions.
“No single institution can win this fight alone,” he said, commending the Nigerian Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) and others for their support to the military over the years.
Musa also extended appreciation to Nigerians, particularly the youth, for their resilience, patriotism, and faith in the country’s future.
“I remain a soldier at heart, a patriot committed to the sovereignty of Nigeria. This may be the end of my active service, but I will continue to serve in whatever way I can,” he affirmed.
His farewell drew applause from senior officers and guests who hailed his legacy of discipline, humility, and dedication to national unity.
