Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has instructed members of his cabinet to publicly demonstrate their loyalty to President Bola Tinubu by wearing attire featuring the president’s insignia.
The directive was issued on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed commissioners, as well as the inauguration of various commissions and agency boards, held in Benin City.
Okpebholo attributed his electoral success to Tinubu’s support, stating that allegiance to the president should be visibly reflected by all members of his administration.
“This could not have happened without a responsible president,” he said. “In past elections, our major challenge was lack of presidential backing. Today, we say thank you.”
He added emphatically “I will not forgive any commissioner not wearing this cap. If you attend an executive council meeting without the Asiwaju cap, you will be sent back—even if you’re wearing a suit.”
Governor Okpebholo reminded the newly appointed officials that their role is one of public service, not an avenue for personal gain.
“Your nominations were not based on patronage but on merit. You were carefully screened and confirmed by the State House of Assembly,” he said.
He stressed his administration’s commitment to “practical governance” over political propaganda, noting that all officials will be assessed based on their tangible impact on Edo residents.
“This appointment is not for making money. You are here to serve, to sacrifice, and to improve the lives of the people of Edo State.”
The governor issued a stern warning against corrupt practices, urging the officials to maintain discipline, collaborate effectively, and remain focused on the administration’s development agenda.
“This administration has zero tolerance for corruption. Your success will be measured by the improvements you bring to the lives of our people. Loyalty must first be to the people of Edo State,” he emphasized.
“History will judge us by our actions, not our intentions.”
Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), was among the dignitaries present at the ceremony.
