Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reaffirmed their commitment to unity, transparency and credible internal elections ahead of the party’s National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The governors made this pledge during the meeting of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) Protocol Sub-Committee held in Abuja. The session was chaired by the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, with Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, serving as co-chairman.

The Ibadan convention will elect 19 new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) as part of the party’s ongoing reorganisation efforts.

Speaking at the meeting, Governor Fintiri said the committee was determined to conduct a transparent and credible convention that reflects the principles of internal democracy for which the PDP is known.

“We are fully committed and will not leave any stone unturned in our preparations. We are making sacrifices to ensure a successful and credible convention. Not under our watch will this party be let down,” Fintiri stated.

He assured that all aspirants who purchased nomination forms would be screened fairly, provided they have no legal or ethical issues, and urged contestants to test their popularity at the convention.

“Everyone who has purchased forms will be screened once there are no encumbrances in their documents or past records. Go and test your popularity in the field because we are already finalising the delegates’ list,” he said.

The Adamawa governor added that the list of delegates would be made public to ensure transparency in the process.

“This is not a closed system. The contest is open. Those who are most popular and enjoy the support of the majority will emerge victorious,” he said, while urging party members to remain disciplined and cooperative throughout the process.

“Ignore the noise and focus on the task ahead. With unity and sacrifice, we will emerge stronger,” he added.

In his remarks, Plateau State Governor and co-chair of the committee, Caleb Mutfwang, said the convention would serve as a test of the PDP’s organisational strength and readiness to rebuild its internal structures.

“Yesterday’s meeting shows that the PDP is taking the convention very seriously. Those who founded this party would not want it to die in our time. We have a responsibility to keep the platform functional for Nigerians,” he said.

Mutfwang emphasised the importance of coordination among members of the organising team, particularly in managing logistics and protocol arrangements for the event.

“Our job is clear. This inaugural meeting is for us to know ourselves and set the groundwork, but the real work will take place in Ibadan,” he stated.

The upcoming convention is expected to produce a new set of national officers and signal the next phase in the PDP’s efforts to reposition itself as a formidable opposition ahead of future elections.
