Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has disassociated himself from unauthorised online promotions using his name and image.

In a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Obi warned the public against falling for fraudulent advertisements falsely linking him to various products, companies, or money-making schemes.

“I categorically state that I have no affiliation with any of these endorsements or promotional activities. At no time have I authorised any individual, business, or platform to use my name, image, or identity for commercial purposes,” Obi said.

He described the unauthorised use of his identity as fraudulent and deceptive, warning that such acts aim to exploit public trust.

“The public is strongly advised to disregard these false claims and exercise extreme caution. Any legitimate updates about me will be shared only through verified official channels,” he added.

This clarification follows a recent wave of digital scams targeting public figures in Nigeria. Obi’s image was recently linked to false endorsements, including AI-generated videos promoting platforms like AfriQuantumX.

Fact-checkers have since debunked these claims, highlighting the growing sophistication of online fraud in the country.
