The Jigawa State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral video alleging that armed bandits were seen riding motorcycles through Dutse, the state capital.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, the footage, which caused panic on social media, was fabricated and misleading.
The video claimed that around 12:47 a.m. on October 28, 2025, a large group of armed bandits rode through the metropolis toward an undisclosed location. Adam, however, described the claim as “entirely false, misleading, and mischievous,” urging residents to remain calm and ignore the rumour.
Investigations, he said, showed that the people captured in the clip were actually members of the Peace and Security Service Organisation hunters from Bauchi State who were returning from a meeting in Chai-Chai Sabuwa, Ringim Local Government Area.
“They carried traditional gear like Dane guns, bows, and arrows, not bandit weapons. The group was simply returning from a meeting in Chai-Chai Sabuwa, Ringim Local Government Area, when someone filmed them. This is pure misrepresentation that could spark needless tension,” Adam stated.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, appealed for calm, encouraging residents to continue their normal activities without fear and to report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station.
He praised the public for their cooperation with security agencies and reaffirmed the command’s dedication to protecting lives and property.
“Jigawa Police stands firm in our mandate together, we will keep the state safe,” Adam reiterated, adding that Jigawa remains peaceful and secure despite its proximity to regions affected by banditry and insurgency.
