Nigerian singer and actor, Idowu Adeyemi, popularly known as Yhemolee, has expressed concern over the growing culture of begging on social media.

In a recent post, Yhemolee said online platforms that were once meant for social interaction and entertainment have now turned into “begging sites” where many users openly solicit financial help from strangers.

He lamented that some people have perfected the act of online begging, constantly dropping their account numbers under posts, even from people they hardly know.

“It’s no longer news that social media isn’t what it used to be. It’s now a begging site. The only difference between beggars on the streets and those online is that the online ones have data,” he wrote.

The entertainer further noted that it has become almost impossible to share a post without being flooded by requests for money.

“These days, when you post a picture, the first ten comments are usually account numbers. My problem is with those who have a PhD in begging. Please, omit all that from my posts,” he added.

Yhemolee gained fame with his hit single “Mon Cheri” featuring Chinko Ekun and Asake, and has since appeared in popular Nollywood productions such as “Gangs of Lagos” and “Alakada: Bad and Boujee.”
