Former Senator for Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has downplayed the possibility of new states being created before the 2027 general election.

In an X post on Tuesday, Sani advised those pushing for the creation of new states before the next election not to waste their time as it won’t happen.

The National Assembly Joint Committee on Constitution Review recently approved the creation of six new states, one in each of Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, as part of its resolution in the ongoing review of the nation’s constitution.

The resolution is expected to be presented to lawmakers at the next plenary.

The lawmakers will then vote whether to accept or reject the proposal.

Sani said, “People asking for creation of new state almost a year before the general elections are just wasting time.” (The Sun, but headline rejigged)
