Former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has predicted that Arsenal will lift the Premier League trophy this season, ending their 22-year wait for the title.

Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, Mikel praised the Gunners’ impressive defensive record, noting that Mikel Arteta’s side has conceded just three goals in their opening nine matches, a sign, he believes, of a championship-winning team.

According to the former Super Eagles captain, Arsenal’s backline currently sets the standard in English football. “They’ve got the best defenders in the league,” Mikel said. “When you look at how solid they’ve been, you can tell they’re ready to go all the way.”

In contrast, Mikel expressed doubts about his former club, Chelsea, insisting the current defenders at Stamford Bridge are not good enough to mount a serious title challenge.

“I’ve said it so many times, we just don’t have good enough defenders,” he lamented. “We can’t win the Premier League with those centre-backs.”

Mikel emphasised how crucial defensive stability is to success in the Premier League, pointing to Arsenal as a prime example of balance and discipline at the back.

As of now, Arsenal sit four points clear at the top of the table, with Bournemouth in a surprising second place after Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool all slipped up over the weekend.
