The leadership of the PBAT Door To Door Movement, a pro-Bola Tinubu group, has refuted claims linking its Grand Patron, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), to a call for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement on Sunday, the group’s National Coordinator, Sunday Asuku, described the report as false and malicious, saying Tompolo had no connection to the purported 21-day ultimatum allegedly issued to the Federal Government.

“This claim is entirely baseless and the handiwork of desperate propagandists, fake news merchants, fifth columnists, and agents of disunity,” Asuku said.

Kanu is expected to open his defence on Monday in the terrorism trial before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja. The case was adjourned on Friday after Kanu told the court that his former legal team, led by Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), had yet to release his case file.

Asuku said the false report was an attempt to create tension and pitch the Federal Government against Tompolo, adding that such efforts would fail in light of Tompolo’s “exemplary commitment to national peace and development.”

He noted that those spreading the rumour were unsettled by Tompolo’s strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“These elements are bent on creating tension and undermining the patriotic efforts of a man who has remained an icon of peace, unity, and national development, regardless of tribal, religious, or political affiliation,” Asuku said.

“For the avoidance of doubt, at no time did Chief Tompolo issue any statement or directive concerning Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s legal proceedings. The matter is before a competent court, and any attempt to interfere would be unpatriotic and unlawful.”

The movement urged security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), to investigate and sanction those behind the false publication.

“The reckless use of social media to spread divisive propaganda undermines public trust and poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s peace and development. Such actions must not go unpunished,” Asuku added.
