Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Monday Ubani, has advised the newly confirmed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, to focus his attention on preparing for forthcoming elections rather than investigating the activities of his predecessors.

Ubani gave the advice during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, which was monitored by Insightlinks, his comment comes barely 24 hours after Prof. Amupitan was confirmed as the substantive head of Nigeria’s electoral commission.

According to Ubani, while there is value in reviewing past administrations, the new INEC leadership should make future elections its top priority.

“Reflecting on the past has its importance, but it shouldn’t dominate the new chairman’s agenda. With the Anambra election around the corner, his main focus should be on rebuilding public confidence in INEC,” Ubani stated.

He described the forthcoming Anambra election as a major test for Amupitan’s leadership, noting that although the new chairman possesses strong academic qualifications and credentials, his limited experience in managing electoral processes might pose some initial challenges.
