The White House has criticized the Norwegian Nobel Committee after it awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, overlooking US President Donald Trump.

White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung took to X on Friday, saying, “The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace.” He added, “President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will.”

Since his return to the White House for a second term in January, Trump has frequently claimed that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in resolving global conflicts — assertions that many observers consider exaggerated.

On the eve of the Nobel announcement, Trump reiterated his claim, saying that his involvement in brokering the first phase of a Gaza ceasefire marked the eighth war he had ended. However, he added on Thursday, “Whatever they do is fine. I know this: I didn’t do it for that, I did it because I’ve saved a lot of lives.”

Experts in Oslo had previously noted that Trump had little chance of winning, arguing that his “America First” approach contradicts the principles of the Peace Prize as outlined in Alfred Nobel’s 1895 will establishing the award.
