The Bauchi State Government has directed the immediate shutdown of all schools across the state due to escalating security threats.

The order affects every level of education primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions including federal and privately owned schools operating within the state.

The directive was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the Ministry of Education’s Information and Public Relations Officer, Jalaludeen Usman.

He explained that the decision followed extensive consultations and was based on “serious and overwhelming security concerns threatening the safety of students, teachers, and school communities.”

Usman noted that although the decision was difficult, protecting children remained the government’s top priority.

“The government is fully aware of the inconvenience this may cause, but the safety of our children is our highest moral responsibility. Every student deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, stable, and free of fear,” he said.

He called on parents, guardians, school proprietors, and other stakeholders to remain calm, assuring them that efforts were underway to address the situation.

“We urge the public not to panic but to stay cooperative. The government is working closely with security agencies to tackle the threats quickly and comprehensively so that normal academic activities can resume as soon as it is safe,” he added.

Residents were encouraged to be vigilant and to report suspicious activities, as timely information is vital for community safety.

The closure comes in the wake of recent student abductions in Kebbi and Niger states, incidents that have heightened fears across the northern region.

Just days earlier, the Federal Government also ordered the temporary closure of 41 unity schools nationwide due to increasing cases of school abductions.

The Bauchi State Government said it would continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
