A Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on three out of the seven terrorism-related charges brought against him by the Federal Government.
Delivering the judgment on Thursday, Justice James Omotosho stated that the prosecution had provided sufficient evidence, including video interviews in which Kanu issued violent threats against Nigeria and its citizens.
The court found him guilty of counts one and two, which alleged that he made multiple broadcasts inciting violence and killings in pursuit of his separatist campaign for Biafra.
According to the ruling, Kanu’s repeated threats such as calling for sit-at-home orders across South-East states constituted acts of terrorism.
Justice Omotosho further convicted him on counts four and five, which accused Kanu of inciting violence during the #EndSARS protests, resulting in the deaths of security personnel and the destruction of government property in Lagos.
