Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has called on the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to locate Brigadier General Musa Uba, the Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 25 Brigade.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Ndume also pressed for urgent action to rescue the 25 schoolgirls abducted last Sunday from Government Girls Comprehensive School, Maga, in the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Brigadier General Uba was reportedly ambushed and captured on Friday by fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province during a convoy mission near Wajiroko village.

The group later released an unverified video on social media claiming responsibility and alleging that the senior officer and other captured soldiers had been executed an assertion initially denied by the Nigerian Army.

President Bola Tinubu, however, confirmed Uba’s death on Wednesday, describing him as one of the nation’s “brave soldiers who fell in Borno.”

Ndume, a former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, warned that the escalating insecurity across parts of the North-West and North-East including terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry requires immediate and coordinated government intervention.

He said “I am compelled to issue this statement concerning the abduction and whereabouts of Brigadier General Musa Uba and the 25 females of the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, by terrorists.

“Let the government and our security agencies act quickly to bring back the Brigade Commander, dead or alive. I also call on authorities to intensify efforts to safely rescue all the abducted schoolgirls.

“Bringing them back would help minimize the trauma faced by their families, friends, and Nigerians in general.”

The senator commended the efforts and sacrifices of military personnel and prayed for divine guidance as federal and state authorities continue their fight against terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry nationwide.
