The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State, Ilesanmi Omolayo, has assured members that the party’s primary election to select its candidate for the June 20, 2026, governorship poll will be free, fair, and transparent.

Scheduled for November 6, the exercise will be conducted through the direct primary mode across all 177 wards of the state.

Omolayo urged security agencies to provide adequate protection for members and venues to prevent a recurrence of the October 21 attack on the ADC state headquarters, when hoodlums reportedly set the secretariat ablaze and injured party members in an attempt to disrupt internal processes.

Speaking with PUNCH Online, Omolayo revealed that five aspirants have obtained the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms and will undergo screening on November 3.

He emphasized that the State Working Committee had reviewed preparations and was committed to ensuring a level playing field for all contestants, with no preferential treatment.

He expressed optimism that the primaries would proceed smoothly, adding that all aspirants had agreed to support whoever emerges as the party’s flag bearer.

According to him, the large number of aspirants shows the openness of the ADC and its growing appeal among Ekiti voters.

Omolayo reiterated that the party’s goal is to conduct a transparent primary that could serve as a model for other political parties, reaffirming the ADC’s determination to contest and win the forthcoming governorship election despite recent attacks on its secretariat.
