Former Senator representing Abia North, Mao Ohuabunwa, has been named the factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT).
His emergence follows the dissolution of the Adolphus Wabara-led BoT by a faction loyal to the party’s Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammad.
The development was announced in a communiqué issued after an emergency and inaugural meeting of the reconstituted BoT held on Friday in Abuja.
According to the communiqué, Hon. Isah Dansidi was also elected as the new Secretary, replacing former Kaduna State governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
The faction explained that Wabara and Makarfi could no longer retain their positions because they had “publicly taken sides in the ongoing internal crisis,” which, it said, compromised the neutrality expected of members of the BoT.
“Accordingly, the Board unanimously approved the election of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Hon. Isah Dansidi as the Chairman and Secretary of the newly constituted Board of Trustees, respectively,” the communiqué stated.
Reaffirming its loyalty to the PDP, the faction maintained that the party “remains one indivisible, united, and democratic family committed to justice, equity, and progress.”
On the party’s planned national convention, the BoT endorsed its postponement pending the outcome of the appeal filed against a recent Federal High Court judgment.
“The judgment of the Federal High Court remains superior and weightier in law than the interim order of the Oyo State High Court,” the communiqué added.
“Prudence and respect for judicial processes demand that the proposed National Convention be deferred until the Court of Appeal delivers its verdict.”
