Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has dissociated himself from the Peoples Democratic Party’s decision to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; and several other senior members of the party.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Mutfwang clarified that the proposal to expel the party chieftains was neither discussed at the PDP Governors’ Forum nor at the National Executive Committee meeting before it was introduced at the national convention in Ibadan.
According to him, the move does not represent his position.
“The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has formally distanced himself from the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike; former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose; and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, alongside other leaders of the PDP,” the statement read.
Mutfwang warned that removing prominent stakeholders at a time when the party is battling internal challenges is not a strategic path forward. He stressed the need for unity, dialogue, and collective action to rebuild and reposition the PDP.
At the ongoing 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, the PDP expelled several high-profile members, including Wike, Anyanwu, former National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), former Ekiti Governor Fayose, and Imo PDP Chairman Austin Nwachukwu, over alleged anti-party activities.
The motion for expulsion was moved by former PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), Bode George, and seconded by Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Samaila Buga. It was later put to a voice vote by Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed, and was overwhelmingly supported by delegates.
Mutfwang, however, maintains that expulsion alone cannot resolve the deep-rooted issues within the party.
