Twenty teams across the 10 wards of Egbedore Local Government Area will participate in the debut edition of Egbedore Unity Cup, a football tournament sponsored by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Mr Oladele Bamiji.

The tournament, which officially kicked off on Saturday at Ofatedo, was organised to promote unity, discover talents and develop football at the grassroots.

Speaking at the official opening of the tournament, Bamiji said the tournament was conceived by some young people in the local with the sole aim of bringing people together, especially during the festive period.

Adeleke’s aide said, “the idea behind all these is to galvanise the youthful strength talent of our young talent at the grassroots. Because an idle hand is a devil’s workshop, this is what they love to do and we can not but support them,” Bamiji said.

While promising a bigger tournament next year, Bamiji called on the organizing committee to ensure that the tournament is rancour-free and to be fair to all participating teams.

While speaking with InsightLinks, the Chairman of the organizing committee, Jimoh Lasisi said 20 teams have registered, screened and set to participate in the tournament.

Lasisi revealed that all arrangements have been put in place to ensure free and fair contest among the teams.

After an enthralling encounter between Amorite FC and Oke Sapo, the latter defeated the former by two goals to one.
