The Kogi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has distanced itself from Senator Dino Melaye, insisting he is not and has never been a member of the party.
This was stated on Friday in Lokoja by the party’s Public Relations Officer, Tayo John, who accused Melaye of repeatedly meddling in ADC affairs despite having no official ties to the party.
John said the party’s executives were compelled to publicly clarify Melaye’s status because of his “unwarranted interference and persistent attacks” on ADC.
According to him, Melaye has no record of membership at the ward, local government, or state level and therefore lacks the standing to speak on the party’s behalf.
“Let me state clearly that Dino Melaye is not a member of ADC in Kogi State. He is not known in his ward and has no identity within our party,” John said.
He went on to describe Melaye as someone more focused on creating social media content than engaging in serious political activity.
“Dino is simply an impostor. He has not paid membership dues or participated in any of our recognised activities. By all standards, he cannot represent ADC at any level,” he added.
John reaffirmed Hon. Leke Abejide as the party’s legitimate national leader, noting that Abejide has been a committed and financial member of the ADC since 2018 and was duly elected into the House of Representatives under the party.
The spokesman urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Inspector General of Police, and the public to ignore Melaye’s statements about the party, accusing him of attempting to destabilise ADC.
“His mission is to destroy ADC just as he has done to previous parties for personal gain. We won’t allow that,” John said.
He added that ongoing court cases initiated by Abejide and the Benue State ADC chairman will ultimately determine the rightful leadership of the party.
John also dismissed claims that Abejide had been suspended or expelled, describing such actions as illegal and contrary to the ADC constitution.
“They met Leke Abejide in the ADC. He is both a state and national stakeholder. Those calling for his seat to be declared vacant have no such authority,” he said.
