The Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday opened its 2025 Elective National Convention, tagged #Ibadan2025, at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan.

According to the party, more than 3,000 delegates, including governors, members of the National Executive Committee, the Board of Trustees, and other key stakeholders from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, gathered in the Oyo State capital for the event.

The two-day convention, holding from November 15 to 16, will climax with the election of a new National Working Committee, including a National Chairman who will lead the party’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, spokesperson Babangida Umar stated on the party’s official X handle.

This year’s gathering follows weeks of delays, internal disputes, and attempts by certain factions to involve INEC and the courts in a bid to halt the convention.

Describing Ibadan as a “fitting host,” the PDP praised the city’s modern infrastructure and facilities, noting that the venue rekindles memories of the party’s landmark 1998 Jos convention, a milestone in its political history.

More updates from the convention are expected as proceedings continue.
