The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has said that President Bola Tinubu instructed Nigeria’s new service chiefs to deliver tangible results in combating the country’s evolving security challenges.
Onanuga made this known in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, sharing an excerpt from Tinubu’s address to the military hierarchy last Thursday. According to him, the President was “well ahead of the orchestrated game unfolding in America” when he spoke to the chiefs.
“Security threats are constantly evolving and mutating,” Tinubu warned. “Of grave concern to our administration is the recent emergence of new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South.
We must not allow these threats to fester — let us smash the new snakes right in the head.”
The President further urged the officers to show patriotism, innovation, and measurable results in their operations.
“I charge you, as heads of our nation’s armed forces, to perform your duties with patriotic zeal. Nigerians expect results, not excuses,” he said.
“Let us be innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous. Deploy technology where necessary. We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer. You have my full backing to get the job done.”
Tinubu’s comments come amid renewed global attention on Nigeria’s security situation.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump had warned of possible action against Nigeria if the alleged killings of Christians were not halted. On his Truth Social account, Trump directed the U.S. Department of War to prepare for “possible action,” adding that Washington might suspend all aid to Nigeria if the violence continues.
“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance,” Trump stated.
“We may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists committing these atrocities.”
