The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports that it placed any preconditions on Governor Agbu Kefas ahead of his anticipated defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking to journalists in Jalingo on Wednesday, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Aaron Atmas, said the governor’s decision to join the ruling party was entirely voluntary and free of any form of negotiation or demand.
“The APC has not set any conditions for Governor Kefas. His decision to join us is completely voluntary. We believe he will bring fairness and justice to everyone. There are no hustles or rancour involved,” Atmas stated.
According to him, Kefas’s planned defection is driven by a desire to unite political stakeholders and accelerate development across Taraba State.
“The key message from the governor is unity. He wants all of us to speak with one voice and move Taraba forward,” he added.
Atmas also clarified that the governor’s recent engagements with senior APC figures were part of efforts to dispel rumours and misinformation surrounding his move.
“The meeting was to shift discussions from rumours to reality. The governor has confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially handed him over to the APC National Chairman,” he revealed.
He further disclosed that a formal reception ceremony to officially welcome Governor Kefas into the party would be held soon.
Atmas maintained that there is no effective opposition left in the state, noting that most influential political actors have already aligned with the APC.
“We are operating in a democratic spirit. Governor Kefas has demonstrated his ability to work with people from all backgrounds and is committed to harmonizing Taraba’s political landscape,” he concluded.
