Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has urged the Federal Government to launch an immediate investigation into the escalating insecurity across the country following renewed cases of mass abductions and violent attacks by bandits.
In a statement released on Wednesday through his verified X handle, Kwankwaso condemned the kidnapping of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga in Kebbi State. The incident occurred early Monday when armed men rode into the school on motorcycles and engaged security personnel in a gun duel before whisking the students away.
He also expressed concern over the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State, describing the development as a major setback in the fight against terrorism. Kwankwaso demanded a thorough inquiry into the security lapses and intelligence failures that led to the tragedies.
Kwankwaso further lamented the wave of mass kidnappings in Zamfara State, calling it “truly heartbreaking,” and appealed to authorities to ensure the safe rescue of abducted victims. He noted that communities in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of Kano State have also witnessed renewed attacks requiring immediate intervention.
While commending the Kano State Government for providing vehicles to security agencies, he stressed that the gesture alone was not enough to address the worsening insecurity.
He stated, “These areas have seen repeated violence; in one recent incident, bandits killed three villagers after crossing from Katsina State.
“In another raid, two nursing mothers were kidnapped from the Faruruwa community in Shanono, heightening fear among residents.
“These incidents are not isolated. They reveal serious setbacks in the battle against insecurity,” he warned, urging the Federal Government to adopt a more decisive and coordinated approach.
Kwankwaso also called for the strengthening of the armed forces and better support for the Nigeria Police Force to enhance their capacity to protect citizens and rebuild public trust.
On Monday, bandits attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, killing the Vice Principal and abducting no fewer than 25 students. The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the number of kidnapped students.
