The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for demonstrating political maturity and a firm commitment to democratic values by maintaining neutrality during Saturday’s Anambra governorship election.

In a statement released on Monday, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, commended the President for resisting any form of interference in the electoral process, describing his stance as a reflection of his dedication to free, fair, and credible elections.

“The President has once again shown that he remains a true defender of Nigeria’s democracy by promoting transparency and refusing to meddle in the conduct of elections,” Oladejo said.

He added that Tinubu’s non-interference had reinforced public confidence in the electoral system and strengthened Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Oladejo also lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what he termed a credible and transparent election, noting that the poll marked “a refreshing new dawn in the nation’s democratic experience” under the commission’s current leadership.

Commenting on the opposition, the APC spokesperson said the Anambra election exposed the weakness and lack of unity within the opposition coalition, describing it as a “gathering of political wanderers and competing egos.”

“A group that cannot win in its own stronghold should stop dreaming of national victory,” he stated.

According to him, while the opposition continued to trade blames, the APC would remain focused on governance and reforms aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.

Oladejo emphasized that the ruling party was the only political organization in Nigeria with true national reach, structure, and discipline, warning that “the era of emotional blackmail in politics is over.”

Meanwhile, the INEC had on Sunday declared Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner of the election with 422,664 votes. His closest challenger, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the APC, polled 99,445 votes, while Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came third with 37,753 votes.

Other results showed George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) securing 10,576 votes, John Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with 8,208 votes, and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 1,401 votes.

The election outcome, according to the Lagos APC, serves as a lesson in political organization and a testament to the nation’s gradual progress toward genuine democratic maturity.
