The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), to reconsider his plans to contest in the 2027 presidential election.

The party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, made the statement on Sunday in Lagos while reacting to the Labour Party’s performance in Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.

Oladejo said the results showed a significant decline in the Labour Party’s grassroots influence and the waning momentum of the Obedient Movement.

“The outcome, especially at Obi’s own polling unit, indicates that the Labour Party’s structure in his base is weakening. Social media popularity cannot replace consistent political organisation and voter engagement,” he stated.

He noted that the Anambra election was a reminder of the importance of political structure and sustained performance, adding that President Bola Tinubu remained focused on governance and reforms while other politicians needed to build stronger institutions.

“The APC’s performance in Anambra demonstrates growing public confidence in our party’s leadership. Good governance and effective delivery remain the surest paths to political success,” Oladejo said.

He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for conducting a peaceful and transparent election.

“The result reaffirmed that electoral victories are achieved through planning and performance,” he added.

Oladejo urged political actors to deepen their engagement with citizens and strengthen grassroots connections, emphasizing that steady service delivery at the local level would build public trust.

“The Anambra poll offers important lessons for future elections. The APC remains committed to service, development, and national unity. Performance and structure will continue to shape electoral outcomes in Nigeria,” he said.

He congratulated APC members in Anambra for their resilience and reaffirmed Lagos APC’s commitment to democratic growth and inclusion.

“All political parties should focus on peaceful campaigns and credible elections. Democracy thrives when politicians respect the will of the people. The Anambra poll should inspire more issue-based politics,” Oladejo concluded.
