Liverpool manager Arne Slot is facing intense scrutiny after his team suffered a damaging 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, plunging the Reds deeper into early-season turmoil.

The loss which was Liverpool’s sixth in their last seven Premier League matches has dragged the club into the bottom half of the table after just 12 games, despite a summer of heavy investment in new players.

The club spent big on stars like Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerez, and Giovanni Leoni, but results on the pitch have not matched the expectations.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool’s owners are not planning to sack Slot at this stage. Speaking on YouTube, Romano explained:

“At the moment, I have no information that Liverpool are considering an immediate decision about Arne Slot. They are NOT thinking of changing the manager right now.”

Romano noted that the club still expects a turnaround in performances, but responsibility is shared between the manager and the players.

“Slot knows the situation is difficult, but he still feels the backing of the club. Liverpool are NOT in talks with any other manager,” he said.

“But the results must change quickly, especially in the Premier League.”

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes Liverpool are regressing under Slot despite the heavy summer spending.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: “Six defeats in seven… unthinkable. The wheels are coming off for Arne Slot. He has spent around £450m and they are going backwards.”

Keown also noted that Slot has struggled to transition from Jurgen Klopp’s era, with his changes yet to deliver positive results.

Captain Virgil van Dijk admitted the team’s situation has become “a mess,” acknowledging that the players are also responsible for the poor run.

“We had good preparation, but the facts are we conceded a set piece in the first half and a terrible goal early in the second,” he told reporters.
“We are definitely letting the manager down, and ourselves. We need to help each other get out of this mess. As champions, we can’t be in this situation.”

Liverpool will now turn to the Champions League, where their form has been stronger. They recently beat Real Madrid and have won three of their four group matches.

Next up is a home clash against PSV, current leaders of the Eredivisie. However, PSV have struggled in Europe and managed just one Champions League win, a 6-2 victory over Napoli.

Anything less than victory for Liverpool could increase the pressure on Slot ahead of their Premier League trip to West Ham on Sunday.
