The Niger State Government has condemned the abduction of students from St. Mary’s School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, saying the incident could have been avoided if the school had obeyed a directive suspending boarding activities in the area.

According to reports, the attackers invaded the school in the middle of the night, between 2am and 3am, whisking away an unspecified number of pupils. Insightlinks earlier reported that several students were taken during the raid, though the exact figure is still unclear.

Confirming the attack, the Head of Disaster and Relief in Agwara LGA, Ahmed Abdullahi Rofia, said authorities are still trying to determine the number of missing students and staff.

In a statement released on Friday, the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, revealed that the state had earlier received credible intelligence indicating heightened security threats across parts of the Niger North Senatorial District. He added that investigations into the latest abduction are ongoing, with security agencies already on the ground.
